Hello welcome to the Argon homepage.

How is it written out?? Well... the abbreviation for Argon is Ar. Since it has 18 protons, it is number 18 on the periodic table of elements. With its rounded amount of neutrons as 21.
This element falls under the 3rd period and 18th group, because it has a full 3rd valence shell. Eight-teen electrons can be found in this shell. This makes this element very stable.
Argon cannot be combined with many different elements, it is in the Noble gas group. The "Noble Gas" group is very stable because of its full valence shell.

Characteristics and Traits

Argon is a noble gas.... which can mean many things, especially that it is very stable.

There are no violent reactions, yet alone any reactions when dealing with Argon, making it safe to deal with.

People fill light bulbs with argon because it slows down the evaporation of the Tungsten filament.

Also in welding, argon is used to create an inert atmosphere. This makes it safe and NON-REACTIVE.

Uses

Many of the uses of Argon in the medical field include, when it is used in cryosurgery which uses liquefied argon to destroy cancer cells. Blue argon lasers are used in surgery to weld arteries, destroy tumors and correct eye defects.

Not only is argon used in Medical Subjects, but are most of the uses common uses around you.

Often Argon is used inside incandescent light bulbs to protect the tungsten filament. Argon is used in lots of common places because it slows down any process of deterioration. This is the reason why the Declaration of Independence is stored in Argon.

Facts/Information

About 1% of Earths atmosphere is filled with argon. Since Argon is one of the heaviest gases, and Helium is one of the lightest... it does the reverse effect to your voice. BUT since it is heavier than air, you have to breath upside down to get the Argon gas out.
Argon is relatively cheap to obtain. Because all it takes is liquifying air then collecting the bottom of the liquid.
